I'm a little disappointed. I'm camping right now in it and my first couple days I already have 3 rips. Disappointed the canvas is not more sturdy. Yes, I pulled was too hard on one strap. Gives me little hope this will be the tent that lasts.
Great idea, weak canvas in my opinion.
My husband and I spent the summer traveling and camping in this tent from the desert to the rainforest, this tent is awesome. It's easy to set up, I usually set up the tent while he was unpacking other things. I read a few reviews of people saying it's hard to set up and I just didn't find that to be true, especially after you set it up a time or two.
I was also worried about bugs, etc coming in because there's no bottom, but that wasn't an issue either, even in horrible mosquito infested areas.
Definitely worth the money!!!
First let me say that I love almost everything about this tent. I have owned other truck tents in the past, and really appreciate the heavy-duty materials used in the construction of this one. However, my main problem I have with this tent is the cheap hook and loop closures (similar to Velcro) that are supposed to keep the poles in place. After two years of use, they are stripped of almost all grabbing ability, causing the poles to move freely in even moderate winds. Most of the time this is not a problem, but when the wind gusts up, it is not uncommon for the back end of the tent to collapse, causing me to have to try to hold the pole in place by hand because the hook and loops just won't hold adequately. I hope Kodiak changes the design because other than this one design choice to cheap out on these closures, the tent is excellent. I was looking forward to many years of enjoyment with this tent, but unless Kodiak improves this feature, I will not be buying another one.
Thanks for the feedback Steve. We are not sure what is going on with your tent. We have not had this kind of trouble with any other customers. We will certainly have our design team take a look at this, as we continuously make improvements. Please contact our customer service to help you take care of this.
I researched tents before deciding on kodiak canvas. I choose Kodiak Canvas because of their quality. They use superior materials. Their workmanship is of high quality. I will be able to use this tent for many years. If you are looking for a great quality tent you should consider Kodiak Canvas Tents. Everything else is substandard in my opinion. Also the customer service is outstanding. I just cannot say how happy I am with my purchase.
Stays much cooler compared to traditional tents
The 8 foot truck bed Kodiak Canvas tent is the best outdoor shelter that I have owned. I have owned several ground tents in the past and they do not even compare to the quality and workmanship of the Kodiak tent. I found it very easy to set up and take down. The first weekend of camping we experienced a thunderstorm with high winds. The tent performed wonderfully in the storm conditions. No leaks and very little or no movement in the strong winds. I would recommend this tent to anyone that has a truck.
I used an 8' truck tent and my utility trailer to make a camping trailer. Store my pontoons boats and gear in trailer. Then camp in the tent on any surface. Will work great and has more than enough room inside. Equals 10' long box (w/ tailgate down) with good height.
Great tent! It's a little tough to pitch the first time but once it's up and adjusted properly its great. Lots of room and well made. My first use was on a November elk hunt here in Colorado and it held up to the wind and snow without any problems. Looking forward to many camping trips, cold and warm weather. Glad I bought it.
Overall I rate the tent as 4 stars. A little difficult to set up yourself but once up, very spacious and roomy. Fit right over the truck toolbox too. Instructions can be a little vague and the pole bag does not accommodate the side rails for the 8 ft bed, leaving about a foot sticking out the end. The tent bag will hold the tent but it has to be rolled really tight, again a little difficult for one person. Comfort, weatherability and construction are awesome. I definitely would recommend this tent.
